Solomon Arase is a retired Nigerian police officer who was the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nigeria from April 21, 2015, to June 21, 2016. He served in this capacity from April 21, 2015, until June 21, 2016. On June 21, 1956, he debuted in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.

Education

Arase received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Jos in Plateau State. Before that, he studied at Immaculate Conception College in Benin City and attended the University of Jos. In addition to that, he has a Master of Arts in International Criminal Justice System from the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom.

Career

Arase started his professional life in 1981 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and served in various national positions in different regions. Until he was appointed the Inspector General of Police in 2015, he held the position of Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Ekiti, and Delta, respectively.

As the Inspector General of Police of the Nigerian Police Force, Arase initiated several changes designed to improve the force’s efficacy and efficiency. The training and retraining of police personnel, the adoption of new uniforms, and the formation of the Police Complaints Response Unit (PCRU) to handle allegations of police brutality and human rights violations were all part of the complete reform package that he introduced.

The Nigerian Police Force had substantial success in its war against terrorism, abduction, and other types of violent crime when Arase was in charge of the organization. In addition, he collaborated extensively with Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee that the country’s general elections in 2015 went off without a hitch.

Award

Over his career, Arase has been honored with several honors and commendations, including the African Achievers Award for Excellence in Security Management in 2016.

Arase has been actively engaged in the promotion of peace and security in Nigeria via a variety of activities ever since he retired from the police service. In addition, he is a member of the board of trustees of the Police Trust Fund, which is the organization in charge of providing financial support for the operations and welfare of Nigeria’s police force.
