Rispah Simiyu Biography

Beginning on October 22nd, 2020, Ms. Rispah Simiyu will serve as the Commissioner for Domestic Taxes after being appointed by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Deputy Commissioner Simiyu is now in charge of the Tax Dispute Resolution docket in her role at the department.

Mrs. Simiyu is a tax specialist with 19 years of expertise and has joined our team. She started her professional life in 2001 working for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where she eventually became a Tax Manager. After that, she became the regional tax manager for East Africa at the Standard Chartered Bank in Kenya, where she worked. During her time at Standard Chartered, she was a member of the Finance and Audit Committee of the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA), primarily serving as the head of the Tax Subcommittee of that body.

In April 2018, she became a member of KRA. While working for the government agency, she achieved several significant milestones, one of which was increasing the number of conflicts resolved from 90 to 284 by the year 2020.

In a statement, the Chairman of the KRA, Ambassador Francis Muthaura, stated that the appointment of Simiyu was the culmination of an exhaustive recruiting process. This year’s application period opened on August 8th, and 32 people submitted resumes.

She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the Law Society of Kenya, a Certified Public Secretary, and a Fellow Chartered and Certified Accountant (FCCA). In addition, she is a certified Chartered Accountant and a Fellow Chartered and Certified Accountant (FCCA).

She has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Dar es Salaam, a Master of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, and a post-graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. Her area of concentration is at the University of Nairobi’s Master of Laws program in International Trade and Investment.

Mrs. Simiyu has been responsible for carrying out this assignment since the Domestic Taxes Department is responsible for bringing in 65% of the total income collected by the KRA.
