“New Blessings!” – Nigerian singer, Oxlade announces his signing to Colombia Records

Nigerian singer Oxlade has signed a record deal with US label Epic Records owned by Sony Music Entertainment.

Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman professionally known as Oxlade or Oxy is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.

He rose to prominence with the release of the song “Away”, which appeared on Rolling Stone 50 best songs of 2020.

He became more prominent after a sex tape capturing his carnal activities with a young lady was leaked, however, the singer later apologized to the young lady.

The singer has also teased new music, after a rocky start to the year and this new music will be his first to be recorded and hyped by Columbia Records.

Columbia Records is an American record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, the North American division of Japanese conglomerate Sony.

The company announced their new Nigerian signee via Twitter in a video post captioned…

Columbia Records was founded on January 15, 1889, evolving from the American Graphophone Company, the successor to the Volta Graphophone Company.

Columbia is the oldest surviving brand name in the recorded sound business, and the second major company to produce records.

From 1961 to 1991, its recordings were released outside North America under the name CBS Records to avoid confusion with EMI’s Columbia Graphophone Company.

Columbia is one of Sony Music’s four flagship record labels, alongside former longtime rival RCA Records, as well as Arista Records and Epic Records.

Artists who have recorded for Columbia Records include AC/DC, Adele, Aerosmith, Louis Armstrong, Gene Autry, Count Basie, Tony Bennett, Leonard Bernstein, Beyoncé, Blue Öyster Cult, the Byrds, Mariah Carey, Johnny Cash, Cheap Trick, Chicago, among others.

Some notable Nigerian artists have also recorded with the label and they include Wizkid, Mayorkun, and numerous others.
