The Inspiration Behind: Rema’s New Album Titled “HEIS”

Rema is a popular Nigerian singer, songwriter, and rapper, his full name is Divine Ikubor. He started to gain recognition in 2018 after posting a freestyle on Instagram to D’Prince’s song “Gucci Gang”.

Rema eventually came into the limelight in the Nigerian music industry in 2019 after dropping his debut single, “Dumebi”.

Over the years, Rema has shown millions of people that he is one of the biggest Afrobeats singers not just in Nigeria but globally. 

Rema is one of the most streamed music artists from Nigeria, he has dropped several music projects since he came into the limelight in 2019.

HEIS is the latest studio album from the Nigerian singer, songwriter, and rapper who was born on the 1st of May 2000 in Benin City, Edo State Nigeria. 

The HEIS album was released on several digital platforms like Apple Music, Audiomack, Spotify, YouTube Music, and other popular streaming platforms on 10 July 2024 under several record labels including Mavin Records, Virgin Music, Jonzing World, Interscope Records, and others.

Rema dropped the HEIS album on 10 July 2024, and it immediately dominated numerous streaming platforms like Spotify, Audiomack, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and others. Almost all of the tracks on this album made it to the top 50 songs within a few hours in several countries of the world including Nigeria, Ghana, South America, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other countries of the world. 

HEIS Album Inspiration

Rema is one of the Nigerian music artists that are very close to their fans, according to him while speaking at his album launch party in London, Rema said “We all know what Afrobeats was like in 2015, and we all have to take our shit back and own it and protect it,” Rema said at the London event.

“Sometimes, we make it and water it down for them to be able to create it,” Rema explains how the global influence on Afrobeats makes it easier for the sound to be recreated by foreign artists.

“You don’t see artists out here in the diaspora making a song like ‘Ozeba,’”
