In a recent interview, President Bola Tinubu confessed that the recent elimination of fuel subsidies has made life more difficult for the common populace.
In his first message to Nigerians on Democracy Day, which he gave on Monday, Tinubu told them that even though he feels the agony that the masses are going through, there is a need for them to sacrifice even more for the good of the nation as a whole.
According to the president, the temporary discomfort brought on by the termination of the subsidy was absolutely necessary in order to prevent the country from collapsing completely.
He said, “I understand how you feel. We have no choice but to make this difficult choice in order to prevent our nation from collapsing and free our resources from the suffocating grasp of a small number of traitorous individuals.
“I acknowledge that the decision will add an additional load to the shoulders of the majority of our people. It pains me to ask you, my fellow citizens, to make a little more of a sacrifice for the sake of the continued existence of our nation.
