Davido’s Philanthropic Efforts: Using His Platform for Good

Davido is a popular Nigerian singer, songwriter, record producer, and show performer; he has been one of the biggest brands in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Likewise, he is one of the most successful Nigerian music acts in the international sense. David Adeleke was born on 21 November 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States; he spent his early life in the United States. He made his music debut when he was a member of a music group that is known as KB International. According to the available information, Davido studied business administration at Oakwood University before dropping out to focus on making beats and recording vocal references. 

In 2011, Davido moved to Nigeria to honor his father by enrolling at Babcock University. During this time, he stopped his music career and focused on his education. 

Davido came into the limelight in the Nigerian music industry when he dropped his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo, in 2012, which is a mixture of Afrobeats and Afro hip hop. In this album, he worked with several music producers like Maleek Berry, GospelOnDeBeatz, Spellz, Jay Sleek, Dokta Frabz, and others. Dami Duro is the leading hit single on this album. Other successful singles are Back When”, “Ekuro”, “Overseas”, “All of You”, and “Feel Alright.” Within a few months of releasing his debut album, Davido was topping the chart on several platforms and getting massive playtime on radio and television.

His first album success earned him the 2012 Next Rated award at The Headies. Davido is one of the most talented and hardworking music artists in the Nigerian music industry. Over the years, he has dropped several music projects, including albums, singles, and EPs.

After his debut album, Davido dropped several studio albums: The Baddest in 2015, Son of Mercy in 2016, EP, A Good Time in 2019, A Better Time in 2020, and Timeless in 2023.

Aside from working alone, Davido has also worked with several music artists in the Nigerian music industry; Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Teni, 9ice, Kizz Daniel, Asake, and others are some of the reputable music artists he has worked with since he started his music professionally. Likewise, he has worked with several international music artists like Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, and others.

At the moment of writing this informative article, Davido is signed to several record labels, including Columbia Records, RCA Records, Sony Music Entertainment, and Davido Music Worldwide. In 2016, Davido started his record label named Davido Music Worldwide, popularly known as DMW.

This newly established music recording label grew to become one of the biggest and most successful record labels in the Nigerian music industry because, in the same year, he signed several talented music artists like Peruzzi, Mayorkun, and other talented music artists. They quickly succeeded in the Nigerian music industry because of the massive influence of Davido, who also invested so much in promoting them both in Nigeria and other countries of the world. 

At the moment of writing this article, Davido Music Worldwide is one of the biggest record labels in the Nigerian music industry, with several music artists signed, including Davido himself, Morravey, Logos Olori, Peruzzi, Dremo, Liya, DJ Ecool, B-Red, May D, Deinde, Ayanfe, and others.

Davido is one of the few music artists who invest massively in other music artists, especially the upcoming ones in the Nigerian music industry. He is so generous and makes it his priority to help others; he was known for his popular quote, “We Rise By Lifting Others”.

Davido is known for his philanthropic act and effort in society, not just in the Nigerian music industry but to everyone around him and afar.

Mayorkun, Logos Olori, Peruzzi, Dremo, Liya, DJ Ecool, B-Red, May D, Deinde, Ayanfe, and Humblesmith are some of the Nigerian music artists that Davido has helped from being an upcoming artist to successful music artists in the Nigerian music industry. In July 2023, Davido announced on his social media page that his foundation would be donating 200 million to orphanages in Nigeria and that 13,818 children would benefit from the funds.

In February 2024, Davido announced a donation of N300 million through his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation, DAF, to orphanages across the country. According to the available information, the fund will be available for the total number of eligible children: 13,936 children, with 1,688 deemed eligible to benefit from the funds.

Likewise, the allocation is set to benefit a total of 427 eligible orphanage homes, which translates to an average of N19.733 per eligible child.

Davido is known for his generosity to people around him, especially his logistic manager, who has turned out to be his close family friend, Israel DMW. Israel took to his social media platform to thank his boss, Davido, for allowing him to tour 20 European countries with him.

In 2020, Davido helped to revive the music career of Nigerian singer May D when he was featured in his song Lowo Lowo. He went on to sign him to his record label, Davido Music Worldwide. Davido is one of the entertainers who sponsored Mr. Ibu’s medical bills in 2023. 

In July 2023, Davido donated $10k to one hotel staff member, Kekwaaru Ngozi Mary, who went viral on social media for returning $70,000 to a customer who misplaced the money. In September 2023, Davido donated ₦2 million to Mohbad’s father, a few days after his son passed away.

Over the years, Davido has been using his platform to help people around him; it’s not just his family and friends alone, but everyone, including social media users.

Davido recently gave popular Nigerian singer Portable Dior shoes in the United States when he had dinner with him. His generosity list cannot be calculated because he does not give it all in public.

Davido gives to people in private as well, although it is unknown to a lot of people, including his fans and his family. Currently, Davido is the most generous entertainer in Nigeria.
