Ladysmith-born South African singer-songwriter and self-producing poet Nue_Sam delivers “uNongqayizivele,” a six-track EP that arrives as one of 2026’s most intimate and culturally rooted South African projects.
Born Nosipho Khuzwayo and raised in KwaZulu-Natal, Nue_Sam has spent her career using music as a tool for honest storytelling rooted in women’s everyday realities. So “uNongqayizivele” is not an abstract creative exercise. It is a personal declaration – the title itself meaning “the one who trusts in themselves” in Zulu, signalling self-reliance and inner conviction as the project’s whole emotional foundation.
The six-track scope stays deliberate and focused throughout. “Lelogqubu” opens with uDumakahle and sets the cultural tone immediately. “Yaphela” with award-winning uMafakhiza Mfeka deepens the emotional range at track two. “Ixoki” at track three shows creative growth. The remaining tracks extend that honest world further without repeating any emotional territory already covered.
What also separates “uNongqayizivele” from a standard EP release is the self-production thread running through it. Nue_Sam builds these worlds herself rather than handing her vision to outside producers.
