The title itself carries deep weight in Yoruba Christian tradition. “Olorun Jakobu” translates directly to “God of Jacob,” one of the traditional Yoruba praise names for God, sitting alongside similar declarations like “Olorun Abrahamu” and “Olorun Isaki.” Godswill Oyor builds an entire worship experience around that single ancient title rather than treating it as just a song name.
The song was recorded during a ministry tour in Canada and reflects the energy of a live worship experience, with a dominant keyboard sound and layered chants throughout. Drawing heavily from Isaiah 51, Godswill Oyor proclaims God as a fortress, captain, shield, and reliable source of strength throughout the length of the song. Because the ministration develops spontaneously, the structure grows through repeated declarations rather than a fixed verse-chorus pattern.
An official live music video followed two days later, on September 16. Coming from an artist known for collaborations with Nathaniel Bassey and Lawrence Oyor, this one stands on its own as a solo declaration of faith.
